• Partnering with American Red Cross and West Texas Food Bank

From Rebecca Bell, Dean of Community Relations & Special Events
Midland College

MIDLAND, TEXAS - Midland College employees and students are truly generous. We have collected approximately $2,000 to be donated to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Student organizations are continuing to collect funds throughout the remainder of this week.

Donations can also be made online at https://www.redcross.org/donate/hurricane-harvey

We are also working with Howard College to “adopt” a couple of community colleges in the Gulf Coast area to see what specific needs their students and employees have. More info about this next week.

In addition, Karely Noriega Villanueva, associate director of Cogdell Learning Center, has arranged for MC’s Cogdell Learning Center (located at 201 W. Florida Avenue, Midland) to be a “drop off” location for food items being donated to the West Texas Food Bank. The Cogdell Student Scholars will be coordinating these efforts.

If you would like to contribute food items for victims of Hurricane Harvey, you are welcome to take your items to Cogdell. Please see information below from West Texas Food Bank regarding Hurricane Harvey relief efforts and items needed:

“The West Texas Food Bank has been authorized to enter impact zones where the public is unable to go.

Our main focus at this time is to make sure the right donations get to the right people at the right time and the right place.

All citizens are encouraged to donate through the food bank, and not to embark alone to drop off items. The disaster area is NOT safe for the general public, and we do not want the general public to encounter safety issues, or find themselves in situations where a donation might be turned away.

The West Texas Food Bank is equipped to handle large donations, and we are in communication with the Emergency Outreach Center so all deliveries are getting to the proper place.
